Nature-Based Programs Boost Social-Emotional Learning
Why outdoor learning is so special
Thorne Nature Experience has been leading outdoor programs for over 60 years and has been running Thorne Nature Preschool since 2019. Through our experiences of leading nature-based programs, we have always known that there is something magical about learning in the great outdoors. It is thrilling when there are studies that back up what we know to be true of our programs.
Results of a recent study conducted using the tool Hello Insight: Outdoors, created in partnership with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Children & Nature Network, and the YMCA, suggest that nature-based programs allow young people to develop their social-emotional learning capabilities at a higher rate than non-outdoor programs. While this study focused primarily on older children, we are excited about what the results could suggest for the impact of outdoor learning on ALL children.
