Thorne Nature Preschool’s Favorite Inexpensive Outdoor Preschool Adventure Tools

It doesn't take much to keep kids happy outdoors, but here are a few inexpensive tools that we use often at Thorne Nature Preschool and Thorne Summer Camp to enhance the experience:

  • A simple aquarium net:

Anything that is four to six inches in size and fine mesh should work well- example here. Aquarium nets can be used for everything from finding the smallest water creatures to catching a grasshopper or crayfish. You'll be amazed at how something so simple can turn your child into a scientist for hours!

  • A tool for digging:

Is it possible to just dig with a rock or a stick? Yes. However, to get deep into the Boulder, Colorado dirt and to keep your kiddo engaged for extended periods of time, it is helpful to have a tool. Basic garden tools or durable kid-sized garden tools work well.

Outdoor, play-based learning is an important part of Thorne Nature Preschool. If this sounds like the type of learning environment where your child would thrive, please reach out to us. We’re enrolling for the fall and have a few spaces remaining.

Thorne Nature Preschool is for children ages 3-6 with locations in Boulder and Lafayette. Half and full-day options available. Thorne is a Colorado Universal Preschool provider.
