Building Fairy Houses
The ground is littered with twigs and broken branches this time of year–perfect for miniature structures! Our educators often start by reading a story about fairies to spark children’s imaginations before going outside. Tiny toys and pine cone friends need homes too! Remember to use only “dead and down” materials so you don’t hurt the plants and let children’s creativity lead the way!
One of our favorite fairy books to read with kids is Fairy Houses by Tracy Kane. See this book and get inspired with many more fun resources here.
Imaginary play, like building fairy houses, is a big part of Thorne’s outdoor, play-based programs. Learn more about Thorne Nature Preschool in the links below and check out our brand-new Lafayette Nature Center, opening to the public on June 15, 2024.
