Apple Prints
It is apple season in Boulder and Lafayette, so we wanted to share a quick nature art activity for those apples that the critters got to first… apple prints!
Steps:
Step 1: Gather apples. Any type of apple works, including crab apples.
Step 2: Cut apples at various angles to create your apple stamps.
Step 3: Use a paintbrush to thinly paint the cut side of the apple that you would like to stamp. We used fingerpaints but you can use anything that will stick on an apple, even mud.
Step 4: Press the apple down on the paper and enjoy your beautiful prints!
How this activity supports your child’s growth and development: For young children, stamping activates new muscles in the thumb and fingers. For older children, it strengthens and builds endurance for fine motor tasks such as writing. Theme-centered learning can also lead to conversations about plants, decomposition, and habitats, to name a few.
